We understand that there may be some questions surrounding the vehicle protection products that you purchased, so it’s our goal at Performance Automotive to supply you with information around frequently asked questions.
Before cancelling any protection plans you may have purchased, please review the benefits of each individual policy, as we are not able to reinstate any canceled policies.
In the event you choose to proceed with the cancellation, you agree to take 100% financial responsibility for protecting yourself and your vehicle.
Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) is a policy that protects the consumer if their vehicle is declared a total loss due to an accident, natural disaster or theft. In the event of a total loss, GAP may pay the difference between the insurance settlement and the remaining loan or lease balance, as well as the insurance deductible. GAP is also commonly referred to as asset and credit protection because it protects the policy holder from unexpected expenses that may affect their credit standing.
A vehicle service contract helps protect drivers from unforeseen expenses that may arise from a mechanical failure or breakdown. Service contracts may pay for the cost of parts labor roadside assistance a rental car and even food and lodging expenses that the policy holder incurs as a result of a breakdown. Mechanical failures are the number one cause of missed car payments and repossessions as vehicles become more electronically and mechanically complex and the cost of parts and labor continues to rise. Service contracts are becoming an integral part of a worry-free vehicle ownership experience when consumers protect their vehicles with a service contract they can drive with confidence knowing that they may not be stuck with a costly repair bill in the event of a breakdown.
It’s no secret that properly maintaining a vehicle is a key part of vehicle ownership. Without proper maintenance, vehicles are more prone to costly and inconvenient failures. Pre-paid maintenance is a way to lower the financial burden of maintaining a vehicle. A pre-paid maintenance policy allows drivers to pre-pay for required maintenance services when they purchase their vehicle, protecting themselves from price increases that may result from inflation and rising oil parts or labor costs. Each maintenance policy is different so please review the benefits of your specific maintenance contract before making a decision to cancel the policy benefits, as this may ultimately increase the cost of maintaining your vehicle.
A tire and wheel protection plan can eliminate some of the expenses a driver may incur as a result of a flat tire, including both the cost of parts and labor and towing to the repair facility. Some tire and wheel policies also include a cosmetic damage benefit that may pay to correct appearance related damage, such as curb rash. Other policies you may have selected when you purchased your vehicle include but are not limited to key replacement, appearance protection, theft protection, and total loss protection. Some protection plans such as theft protection and appearance protection are non-cancelable because a physical product like paint protectant or VIN-etch has already been applied to the vehicle and cannot be removed. Please refer to your contract or contact the selling dealership for details and cancellation policies for each individual product.
Simply put, no. When you cancel a policy, any refund that is due will be issued directly to your lien-holder and applied to the principal balance of the loan. However, your car payment will remain the same.
Again, the answer is no. In the event that you choose to cancel your vehicle service contract, the dealership is not responsible for any costs you may incur as a result of a mechanical failure. A vehicle service contract is the only way to protect yourself from the expense of costly repairs.
The answer is again, no. Automobile insurance will only provide payment or reimbursement for physical damage resulting from an accident, vandalism, theft, or natural disaster.
These coverages act just like any other insurance policy. If you choose to cancel, you will receive a pro-rated refund based on the time you have held the policy and the miles you have put on the vehicle since the date of purchase, and a small cancellation fee will also be applied.
Absolutely! As long as you are purchasing your next vehicle from Performance Automotive, you may apply any refund, besides GAP refunds, towards the purchase or lease of a new or used vehicle.
Before proceeding to cancel any protection products, please contact one of our managers at the location you purchased your vehicle, as the cancellation of any policy may have a drastic effect on your vehicle ownership experience and your finances.
If you would still like to proceed with cancellation, you will need to provide us with proof of the vehicle’s current odometer. If you have traded your vehicle in at another dealership, you may provide us with a copy of the odometer statement or purchase agreement showing the trade-in vehicle’s odometer at the time of trade. If your vehicle was declared a total loss, we will need a copy of the lost settlement documents from your insurance carrier.
If you are still in possession of the covered vehicle at the time of cancellation, you may submit a notarized odometer statement, a photo of the current odometer reading, or stop by the dealership for an in-person verification.
In order to receive an accurate refund in a timely manner, please make sure that the odometer reading you provide us with is accurate and keep in mind that any misrepresentation of the vehicle’s odometer or any other information is considered fraudulent.
Refunds generally take only a few weeks, however, please allow up to (6) six weeks for processing. If you currently have or previously had a lien on your vehicle, please contact the lender if you haven’t received your refund after the aforementioned six-week time frame.
If you would like any additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to a dealership manager. Thank you for your time we look forward to serving you again in the future.
